[fw1-gurus] VPN Keepalives?

Hello and thanks in advance for your help and consideration:

Running NG FP3 HFA_313 on a Nokia IP650 with IPSO 3.5 FCS14.

We are having problems with gateway-to-gateway VPNs to a WatchGuard
SOHO and a Symantec Raptor firewall.   Both work okay, but seem to
"drop" connections sporadically, causing the applications using the VPN
to "drop" as well and fail.  Interestingly, we have another one of these
same VPNs to a Nokia IP30 firewall, and that one does not drop at all. 
We think it's because the IP30 is set to "keep VPN connection alive" in
its configuration.  Is there any way to configure Check Point to keep
these other VPNs alive?  (We've thought of a continuous ping, etc, but
are hoping for a simpler, easier solution?
